CAPSAL (Creating Achievable Pathways in Science for All Learners) is a cross age mentoring program that pairs high school students with elementary students to prepare a science exposition project. Students utilize the investigative design process to construct a science exposition project that will be presented at the annual district Science Exposition. Student projects are judged on their proficiency level in meeting the State of Washington inquiry standards. Judges use a scoring rubric that parallels the rubric used to measure the investigative process on the Washington State Assessment.

The grant will provide the opportunity for pairing elementary students with their high school mentors to ignite passion and explore opportunities in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) pathways at higher education institutions. Providing students at an early age to explore STEM opportunities at colleges and universities will support their navigation of their K-12 experience to prepare them for university admission.
