University of Missouri-Kansas City
Cynthia Villalvazo represents Kansas City, Kansas and the South Central Zone on the 2012-2013 State Farm Youth Advisory Board.
Cynthia is currently a sophomore at the University of Missouri- Kansas City majoring in chemistry while pursuing a career in dentistry. Before college she home-schooled for eight years where she first began to get involved in youth organizations.
For the past three years Cynthia has been working with Latinos of Tomorrow, a non-profit organization that helps Hispanic and foreign born students prepare for college by focusing on educational achievement, career development and civic involvement. She loves working in Public Relations for the Leadership Team and enjoys mentoring high school students through their educational journey.
Her interest in the world of science first began at Kansas City Kansas Community College where she co-founded the Math and Science Club to increase the representation of women and minorities in STEM fields. She spent last summer interning at the University of Kansas Medical Center and participated in Health Sciences Enrichment Institute, where she researched health disparities in minority communities and had the opportunity to be a doctor for a day at KU School of Medicine.
Cynthia loves to travel and was ecstatic when she was selected to represent her community as a People to People Student Ambassador promoting world peace while traveling to England, France, and Italy. Spending Day of Service on the other side of the world was the most fun and rewarding experience.
She is passionate about letting her peers know about the world of opportunities available through education and credits her accomplishments to God, mentors, and family support. In addition to service-learning, her interests include make-up artistry, music, soccer, movies and spending time with family.
